Creating Tables With DreamweaverIf you've ever created HTML tables by handcoding them, you know that it can be complicated. The concepts are not that difficult, but if your HTML code is off by even 1 character, the whole table will disappear (to learn how to handcode HTML, check out Step By Step HTML) Fortunately, with Dreamweaver, you can simply use the table tool to create a table with any number of columns and rows, and the use the arrow to resize it, and use the 'split cells' and 'merge cells' function to further customize it. To get started you can simply choose: Insert > Table from the top dropdown menu. ![]() From the screen that pops up, you can easily select the number of rows and columns that you want your table to have. Once the table has been created, you can highlight it and then use the 'Properties' toolbar in Dreamweaver to alter the alignment, set cell padding and cell spacing, background color (or image), border width and color etc... ![]() Cell padding and spacing are useful, especially if there is text within the table so that the text isn't pressing up against the table's border. Also useful are the 'cell' tools on the Properties toolbar, which you can use to divide or merge cells by highlighting them and using the split or merge functions. IMPORTANT: It should also be noted that you can change the look and feel of a table by using CSS. This is very useful, and is an alternative way to modify tables. We'll talk a little bit more about CSS in a later lesson. All of this is show to your in detail in the step by step video tutorials Learn Dreamweaver Visually: The best way to learn is to learn visually with the step by step Dreamweaver videos membership.
