Using CSS In Dreamweaver

CSS is a great aspect of webpage building to learn.

Once you see how easy it is, and play around with the CSS tools available in Dreamweaver, you too will begin to use CSS on your websites!

To understand how to use CSS with Dreamweaver, it is necessary to get a basic understanding of CSS.

For this, I highly recommend the TIZAG tutorials on CSS at http://www.tizag.com/cssT/

These tutorials may take you about an hour to go through, and then it may take another hour of experimenting with the Dreamweaver CSS tools, but these 2 hours of learning can save you many hours of web developement and make your websites look better in the long run (and make your site design extremely flexible!)

To give you a brief idea, here's how CSS works with Dreamweaver:

Open up a new file and select 'CSS' as the file type.

I like to use a basic CSS page and start from scratch rather than using Dreamweavers built in starter designs

From this blank CSS page your might create 4 different styles:

You might create 1 style for your side navigation, 1 style for the main body of your text, another for the general color scheme of the page (body background)

Then you would save that file as something like styles1.css.

Then, you might create a new HTML page, and attach the styles1.css as an external style sheet.

Keep in mind, there are 2 ways to use CSS...In one, you can have all of your CSS definitions at the top of your webpage, or you can link to an 'Externall CSS' sheet and simply apply all of those definitions to your webpage.

I like the latter (external CSS) choice better, because you can apply 1 external CSS page to 100 pages in your site, and if you want update the look and feel of all 100 pages, you simply must change the 1 external CSS style sheet that is common to all of them.

I show you detailed examples step by step in the video tutorials

There are many neat things you can do with CSS, and it is worth learning more on the topic to any serious webmaster.
