Creating A Sitemap With DreamweaverSitemaps are an important part of website building, both for large and small sites. Additionally, it may be useful to have a few sitemaps on your site (example: an index of all of your articles, or a sitemap of your news releases). When creating a sitemap, there are 2 types of visitors to consider: Humans and Search Engine Robots. Both are important. Search Engine Robots will help get visitors to your site...so help them help you by creating a logically organized site with a hierarchy of pages. Sitemaps can help search engine robots spider your entire site, which will in turn increase your free search engine traffic. Sitemaps can also be useful to human visitors who are navigating around your site. So how do I create a sitemap with Dreamweaver? Well, one useful feature is the ability to 'Drag and Drop' pages. Just like you can drag images from the files window, you can also drag HTML files into the HTML code of a page you are working on, and a hyperlink will be created based on the page name and page title of the file. It is important to note: If you drag the HTML file into the 'Design' window, Dreamweaver will simply open up that file in a new window. If you want to add a hyperlink, drag the HTML file into the HTML code at the appropriate place. While this isn't the equivalent of making an entire sitemap, it can help you to quickly add links in important pages. If you want to create a full sitemap of your site, it may be a good idea to check out Google Sitemaps or some other sitemap utility.
